Varsity Girls Bolivar at Stockton 1-12-12

Going into to Stockton last night I was very aware of what I might get to see from the guard position.  Ashli and Garrett Burton have been solid at that position for 3 years on the Lady Tiger floor.  Bolivar came in with Sarah Magagna who may be the best ball handler in the area.  The Liberators off guard Darian Treacey is a capable shooter when she gets a good look as well.  But points in the paint dominated the outcome.  Magagna creating off the dribble and getting to the basket scoring 6 of the Lady Liberators first 10 while Garrett Burton rang the bell 17 times in the first half for the Lady Tigers. Causing Coach Archer and his staff to repeat the statement "don't leave her" many times in the 1st half.  "We needed to give some room for the defender guarding Garrett to get through the screens".  Late in the 2nd quarter Darian Treacey was able to spot up for a 3 and knock it down leaving Bolivar with a 34-32 lead at the half.  Micah Cribbs the Senior post player and Evangel Volleyball signee had taken the Lady Liberators on her back without me noticing the 18 first half points.  One of the best shot blockers in the area averaging 11.8 ppg had erupted, hitting 3 15 footers and going 4-4 from the charity stripe.  What are going to be 2 very productive post players for Stockton, Freshmen Joleen Shipps and Sydney Garrett were overmatched by Cribbs and Junior Peyton Peavey.  Darian Treacey much as she had ended the first half put the Lady Libs up 8 late in the 3rd with another 3.  Bolivar making some changes at half were not as vulnerable to the top of the key ball screens holding Garrett Burton to only 6 points in the second half as she finished with 23 points.  Bolivar was led by Micah Cribbs with 29, and according to Mom a career high.  Stockton will next participate as the Host in the Stockton invitational, while Bolivar has a short turn around and will host COC small division foe Hollister tonite.  Final score Bolivar 68 Stockton 61
